FERPA

The 家庭教育权利和隐私法 (FERPA) affords eligible students certain 有关其教育记录的权利. (FERPA下的“合资格学生” is a student who is 18 years of 年龄 or older or who attends a postsecondary institution. 养 in the High School students are considered eligible students regardless of their 年龄.)这些权利是:

  • The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the student believes is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy FERPA规定的权利. A student who wishes to ask the school to amend a record should write the school official responsible for the record, clearly identify the part of the record the student wants changed, and specify why it should be changed. 如果 school decides not to amend the record as requested, the school will notify the student in writing of the decision and the student’s right to a hearing regarding the request 对修正案. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing.

Generally, schools must have written permission from the eligible student in order to release any information from a student's education record. 然而，FERPA允许 schools to disclose those records, without consent, to the following parties or under 下列条件(34 CFR§99).31):

  • School officials with legitimate educational interest:

Directory information may be released for any purpose at the discretion of SUNY-养.

Under the provisions of FERPA, currently enrolled students have the right to prevent the external disclosure of directory information. 请仔细考虑一下 consequences of any decision by you to prevent this disclosure, since should you decide to choose this option, any future requests for information from persons of organizations outside SUNY-养 including future employers or graduate schools will be refused.
